flashed before my eyes [19 Feb 2006|10:48am]
my life... that is.

after what happened last night, there was a 1% chance that mike and i would still be here today.
i've never had a ticket...
never been in an accident...
and no, i've never hydroplaned, until last night.

at the corner of fairfax and santa monica, i was going about 15 mph into the intersection, ready to stop in the intersection at the unprotected left turn.
as i slowed down, i put my foot on the break and turned my wheels to get ready to turn when all of the sudden...
one of my wheels catches water and catapults me into the intersection.
cars are coming head on as my car swings a left turn....
i'm gripping the steering wheel with the brake pedal completely depressed and my car won't stop!
my foot is not on the gas and hadn't been this whole time
with my foot still on the break (reflex), instead of clearing a left turn, my car starts to pull farther to the left almost sending me head on into the cars at the stoplight going straight on santa monica.
in a split second, cars are honking from every which way as they plow into the intersection
about 4 inches fom a stopped white car, somehow, my brain tells me to put my foot on the gas and swing the wheel as far to the right as i can.
finally, my tires grasp the ground again and i felt the car lurch forward as i regained control and almost went over the curb when i got back onto santa monica in he correct lane.

i don't know if i painted a vivid enough picture for you,
but melissa and jenny saw what happened in their rear view mirror and thought we were goners.
like literally, though either we were going to get into a head on collsion with traffic at the left turn on fairfax, or that my car was going to plow right into oncoming (stopped) traffic on santa monica.

never in my life.

i hate los angeles.

fuck the first rain in a long time with oil all over the road because there are too many damn people (and cars) in that city.

i'm thankful to be alive.

The Art of Losing [24 Jan 2006|02:50am]
[ mood | numb ]

Last year, basically in the same week, I lost 2 of what i'd call "siblings"... or the kind of best friends that you just throw into a different category.
for those of you who you know i'd call a friend and who'd reciprocate that label upon me, i think you'd find that you know me more as a social friend... or a surface friend... one that you like to hang out or go out and do something fun with. but, honestly, i don't think 99f the people i associate myself with really know all that much about me. or even want to. i don't know. i just know that i find it difficult for me to get really close to people. always has been. probably always will be. some people say i put up a wall that's hard to break through and often times, people give up. but then there are others that you feel compelled to crumble for and let them inside for some reason or another that you just can't pinpoint. you just feel it. and i don't know what it is. but it happened.
usually when you lose a friend, it was because of some massive fight or confrontation when the friendship is just over. you can't handle seeing each other. speaking. and lack desire to partake in any aftermath with that individual.
but these two.. they were different
and I lost them due to circumstances out of my hands...
and by way of silence.
i think silence is the deadliest weapon. it cuts through you like the sharpest knife. and i've used it to my advantage. and had it used against me.
the first of these two special friends... I do not trust and therefore that person has no purpose in my life... for trust is something that does not come easy by me and when it's broken, well... that's it. i don't hold grudges. i just have no place for people like that in my life. that person doesn't exist to me. silence is golden. the end.
but the other.
this one is more complicated. have you ever become so close to someone that they became like the older brother or sister you never had? someone you could basically tell anything to. the ear that would always listen and never tune you out. and this role was reciprocated by you. you were their confidant. the one that other person could talk to unlike any of their other friends. just so open and so honest. and then one day... poof... life threw the two of you a curve ball and suddenly, that person "couldn't" exist in your life anymore... not because either of you didn't want it to, but because everything else in their life or your life would somehow become fucked up if your friendship continued. so, this person is forced to sacrifice you in order to continue with normalcy in their own life... or the other way around and you had to do it to them.
and...you become silenced.
maybe none of this makes sense. but it does in my own brain. and it sort of kills me.i don't know why i'm writing this.
i guess it's because when you lose this kind of a friend, and then somehow your paths cross, there's so much that you want to say. but can't. and just have to accept the situation as it is for what it's worth...and value what you have left...even if it's really nothing at all compare to what you had.

i'm done.
goodnight.

Therefore, if you weren't a part of an inside joke or have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sorry, but there was a good chance that you missed some funny shit!

-Scott carrying me on his back and later sweeping my feet off the ground and picking me up even though I think i weigh more than him!--I don't know how he did that

RIP [10 Jan 2006|10:10pm]
I seriously am in shock that Stevie Seligman is... dead.
She committed suicide yesterday.
To anyone that wants to contribute something to a memory book,
the Rini family is asking for submissions.

Even thoughs she and I were never close,
our parents were friends,
we went to school together almost our entire lives,
and we were playmates as babies.
the does mean something.
I'm numb right now.

too young to be so confused. [30 Dec 2005|01:33am]
[ mood | depressed ]
[ music | Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers- Flower In Rain ]

so, the past few months, i've been really just down in the dumps... about my family situation which, in turn, affected my school situation...
when both parents don't plan to equally contribute and supplement what you put forth monetarily to the table,
it narrows your choices about where you can afford to go to school...
hence the situation i found myself in...
i never wanted to end up at UCLA... but, circumstantially, it happened...
and...
i have come to the conclusion that i hate it.
my dad made a good point when we debated tonight about my inability to make my situation work at my school and said that my "bags were packed for the east coast even when I started at UCLA, and they're still packed..." so of course i was going to hate it from day one because I didn't want to be there in the first place.
you know when you feel like you've settled...
i don't want to feel that way.
I want to feel like i belong and that i'm not wasting hard earned money on 4 years studying something i'm not passionate about (or even sure will land me where i want to be... example- getting rejected from communications last year with a 3.97 gpa)...
and i also feel like my school doesn't allow me the creative outlet i need. i want to take a drawing class, i want to be able to take voice lessons, i want to minor in music, and i want to be able to learn about things that i'm interested in!...
i don't want to feel like i'm taking bullshit courses to get a bullshit piece of paper that i put no effort into.
if i can get solid A's at UCLA by putting a minimal amount of effort into school, there's obviously a problem.
i'm not passionate about the classes i'm taking,
i'm always looking for an excuse to leave campus at night,
i procrastinate to no end,
i've lost my drive to be engaged in class,
i've lost my motivation to get involved...
and, everytime i talk about my situation, i get teary.
and what scares me is this-
do i have blinders on and is it my situation that's making me depressed?
or... is it me? like... am "I" the one who is depressed...
like, has something changed in ME?
the question i keep asking myself is whether or not the change in me is a product of my surroundings or is really a product of something going on internally.
i used to always smile.
but...
i think LA has cast a spell on me.
i don't like the negative person i've become.

stolen from marianne [29 Dec 2005|12:07am]
First concert?:
oh so funny.... country-style on the lawn at the shoreline dump... Randy Travis and Alan Jackson... I was 5

Last concert?:
Butch Walker and other people who sucked at the Hotel Cafe on Friday, Dec. 19th

How many concerts have you been to?:
oh lord... well there's around 85 JUST in 2005... so I'd say somewhere around 300, give or take...

Best band to see live?:
Hah... well, I still love my DMB... but Radiohead is absolutely incredible live...

Worst band to see live?:
This is a toss up... The Messies were just... awful, hahaha... but I've gotta say the worst mainstream live band = Maroon 5. They haven't improved since they were Kara's Flowers back when Ash and I used to listen to them in the 7th grade.

Life-changing concert?:
Elton John and Billy Joel.

Best friend to go to a concert with?:
I still love going to shows with my mother. always have, always will... just when she doesn't dance! hahaha....

Worst friend to go to a concert with?:
oh lord... this one is a toss up

Best thing to bring to a concert?:
definitely lipgloss/chapstick (im addicted) and gum... and some form of money

Worst thing to bring to a concert?:
a large purse or a sweatshirt

Best season to go to concerts?:
the worst is the winter, hahaha.... standing out in the rain is awful... so probably summer because i dont have to worry about school

Best concert memory?:
i have a few.
1) front row at Aerosmith when I caught steven tyler's feather boa... but then the bitch who gave it to him marched down to the front row and security demanded i give it back to her.
2) tie between front row at DMB and him seeing my sign that said "Last Stop" and he motioned to put it away and mouthed "tomorrow" and winked... catching Dave's pick and carter's broken drumstick at the same show!... or finally MEETING dave at bridge school 2002 and him signing my songbook
3) sitting on the stage for thom yorke for bridge school 2003
and....
i think marianne's right...
4)...Living on Danger has to be up there with the funniest shit ever.

Funnest thing ever done at a concert?:
ohhhh seat bitches :)

Worst thing ever done at a concert?:
gotten kicked out...

Longest concert ever attended?:
coachella... when i went for both days in 2003... 24 hours of nonsense

Upcoming concerts wishing to attend?:
Mayer and Phil Lesh on the 30th
The Weight
TRB

Age people should start going to concerts?:
I think people should take their kids to shows as long as they're respectful.

Age people should stop going to concerts?:
When it's too loud, then you know you're too old :)

Stupidest thing to get at a concert?:
buying merch just to get a wristband meet the artist for the billionth time.

Coolest thing to get at a concert?:
a pick, a drumstick, a setlist... a picture with an artist you don't have one with

Most annoying thing at a concert?:
screaming and puff paint shirts

Outdoor concerts or indoor concerts?:
well, i like the fresh air, but i'd have to say indoor because the smaller venues are indoors

Clubs or larger venues?:
clubs... more intimate

Favorite venue?:
the hotel cafe.. my second home... and i'm so so so so sad. y'all know why.

Least favorite venue?:
largo sucks a fat one. and i've gotten kicked out of the roxy twice.

Name three bands that you would love to see tour together:
Will Hoge (with the old band), Ryan Adams & the Cardinals (if they existed...), Marc Broussard

One band that you would love to see reunite for a tour:
Pink Floyd

Do you prefer seats or the pit?:
pit style in the front

Do you usually buy food/drinks at a concert?:
at shoreline, ill get food... but usually just drinks... if i ain't driving.

Hardest concert you've had to get tickets for?:
hmm... most big shows are equally as hard but i've been generally lucky

Best music to see live?:
live is the truth... and sometimes the sad, honest truth

Nudity at a concert: yes or no?:
hahaha... flashing=no... and girls yelling "take it off" = no

Drinking at a concert: yes or no?:
a few drinks will never hurt ya, but a few too many means you end up pissing everyone off

Best way to end a concert:
with a jam session... or dinner at mel's :)
